Relevant asbestos courses

Registration number 208272/24, valid to May 2027. Sources: the official IATP website and the current ProCompliance IATP certificate. Every certificate issued for the two courses carries the IATP mark and also a QR code that verifies it at iatp.org.uk.

Why asbestos training is a legal requirement

Asbestos training is not a matter of preference. Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires every employer to give adequate information, instruction and training to any employee who is, or is liable to be, exposed to asbestos. The same duty covers anyone who supervises them.

The duty does not stop at people who handle asbestos. It reaches anyone liable to exposure, so it catches trades who could disturb the material in a building put up before 2000. Regulation 10 also asks for the training at regular intervals, adapted to significant changes in the type of work or the methods used. Our page on the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 quotes the wording in full.

Which of the two audited courses fits

IATP audits two ProCompliance courses, and they answer different questions.

Asbestos Awareness

For anyone whose work could disturb asbestos. It covers what asbestos is, the variety of asbestos you might meet, and the requirements under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. That makes it the course for the person holding the tools.

Duty to Manage Asbestos

For the person who holds the duty to manage asbestos. It covers why surveying matters, the types of survey used, and what a survey report has to contain. Therefore it suits a duty holder, a facilities manager or a landlord.

Common questions

What does the IATP registration number show?

It identifies the provider and the period the audit covers. Ours is 208272/24 and it runs to May 2027, so anyone can ask for the number and check it for themselves.

Does IATP membership cover every course in the catalogue?

No. IATP audits named training categories, so only the two asbestos courses above carry it here. Every other course states its own accreditation on its own page instead.

How does somebody verify one of these certificates?

Every certificate we issue for the two courses carries the IATP mark and also a QR code. Scanning it checks the certificate at iatp.org.uk. Therefore an auditor does not have to rely on the paper in front of them.
