Dynamic Risk Assessment in brief: Dynamic Risk Assessment is an online IOSH approved, CPD accredited course from ProCompliance covering when a written assessment is not enough. It takes approx. 25 minutes across 4 sections. A 20 question test follows, so learners have their certificate as soon as they pass.
Why this training matters
Not every risk can be assessed in advance. Dynamic risk assessment is the skill of judging and controlling risk as a situation changes in front of you.
Dynamic Risk Assessment explains the difference between a hazard and a risk and how to work out the level of risk. It then teaches the four steps of a dynamic risk assessment and the hierarchy of control, so people can judge a changing situation on the spot. It is for all employees, especially those whose work changes from one job to the next.

Where dynamic risk assessment fits in the law
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require every employer to carry out a suitable and sufficient risk assessment. Employers with five or more staff must also record the significant findings.
A dynamic risk assessment is how staff apply that thinking on the spot, when a situation changes or a written assessment cannot cover every case. It adds to the written risk assessment and never replaces it.
What employers have to do
- Carry out and record the written risk assessment for the work.
- Train staff to spot hazards, judge the risk and act when things change.
- Make clear when staff should stop work and ask for help.
- Review the written assessment when staff report new risks.
What you will be able to do
- Understand each individual's job role regarding risks in the workplace
- Understand how to calculate a risk score
- You will understand how to dynamically risk assess
- Understand the legal requirements around risk assessments
