Why this training matters
Manual handling injuries account for a large share of workplace injuries every year, and most are preventable.
Manual Handling starts with how your back works and how it gets injured. It then teaches correct lifting technique, the LITE assessment to run before every lift, and the SMART approach to lifting. It is for all employees, because manual handling happens in almost every job.

What the Manual Handling Regulations ask of employers
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 cover lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling and carrying loads by hand or by bodily force. They apply to any job where people move things, from warehouses and care homes to shops and offices.
What employers have to do
- Avoid hazardous manual handling where they reasonably can, for example with a trolley, hoist or conveyor.
- Assess the handling they cannot avoid, looking at the load, the individual, the task and the environment.
- Reduce the risk of injury as far as is reasonably practicable.
- Tell staff the weight of loads where they can, and train them to handle loads safely.
Employees have a duty too: they must follow the safe systems of work their employer sets up.
